Quit your job and start the journey through 13 different countriesThe love couple Michael Gallagher and Alexandra Carson were planning to book a holiday through Europe. A month ‘tour’ through Italy, Greece and Croatia. Lying on the edge of the pool they discussed the plan. However, when they made clear that travel like that, easily estimated 10 – 15,000 dollar, it brought them to the point where ‘going on holiday abroad’ gave a way to ‘life abroad’. One year later, with $ 8,000 in savings the couple booked a one-way ticket to Italy. Both of them had to quit their jobs and sold practically all what they had. The plan began in Florence, but finite “spontaneously” into a seven-month tour through 13 countries. Are you curious about the journey and how they traveled around seven months for $ 8,000? Check out the story and enviable photos here:
20 euros for a dinner here, is more than one day living in Bali. The plan to transform the reality had to go with savings, as much as possible. Gallagher worked as an account manager for an IT company and Carson was yoga instructor, model and actress. Saving money was practically easy, transform not eaten outside the door into a perspective: 20 euros for one meal here is more than a day live in Bali. By saving money and lving consciously + selling the contents such as a TV and the car has saved the couple around the $ 8,000. Gradually, the spontaneous idea was formed into a concrete plan. Two months before departure they booked a single ticket, the trip was planned. To save money the couple booked all the flights and accommodation for the onward journey in advance. When you have a flight or last-minute booking in the high season you pay the full prize. It can really make a difference, more than the half of money can be saved. Therefore Gallagher and Carson decided to take all flights and accommodations to book in advance. With this “preparation” the couple took a gross $ 4,000. Because they had previously requested spared 50,000 bonus points on a British Airways Credit Card – these points were enough for a Milan’s trip to Qatar, to Bali and finally Tokyo to book back home – they could realize this awesome trip. The couple even worked until the weekend before the flight. The apartment was terminated and the remaining furniture was stored at their families, who lived close by. Even on that day they were also ready to leave the apartment to fly to Florence.
Awaring about the nomadic life they also realized that rhythm and regularity was essential.According to him, it took a while before the couple had found a good balance between building the spontaneous life and routine. In the first month, they lived like nomads and were moved throughout Italy: Florence, Milan, Rome, Naples, Pisa and more. They aware about how big the nomadic life was so they realized rhythm and regularity in it’s essential. The days should be classified so that they could build more on their blog and brand efficiently. “The longer the couple stayed in one place, the more it began to feel like home. They did normal things and getted more in touch with the locals”.
IncomeWith a minimum income and an empty saving account their lifestyle should be adjusted. The couple generated income, but that was not much. In Italy they earned $ 350 a month, by writing freelance work for various travel agencies. Eventually, they have boosted this to $ 1500 per month (we think because of the great yoga pictures). The first helft of the trip was the biggest expense because the flights and accommodations were booked earlier. The second helft of the trip, accommodations and flights were the largest expenses, it covered the entire income of the couple. With a minimum income and the empty saving account the lifestyle of the two had to be adjusted. They ate as cheaply as possible and canceled some flights
Returing HomeAfter seven months of traveling for $ 8000 savings and $ 5,500 on-the-road earned money the trip has to end, all the money was gone. The airline ticket back was paid from British Airways points they saved. The couple had so many plans and places they wanted to do & visit, however, they were close at home for financial reasons. Gallagher took his old job and Carson went through as a yoga instructor and start working as a model. For both it was a wonderful adventure which has tasted for more, they went back home to earn new money to continue their travel journey. To be continued..
‘It’s the perfect setting for creative ideas, impressive presentations, dreamlike events. Be surprised and inspired by our extraordinary overall concept.’Designer Marcel Wanders conceived chocolate-like wall panels, Toblerone-shaped sofas, mini bars in the form of bank safes, and lamps fashioned from cow bells. Each and great representations of Swiss successes. Those elements are very ‘perky’ of course, but also very stylish. Watches and knives is you main thought but you wouldn’t expect this at all;).
